The piece
Burcham Street is a long run of plywood cabinets built along one wall, under a window. Ten drawer and cupboard fronts, in birch ply, run the full length in two even rows.
Kept low
The run is held to a low height and a shallow depth rather than built up to the window sill. A tall run of storage would have shortened the room; kept low, the cabinets sit under the window without closing off the wall above it, and the space reads as larger than its floor area.
A second use
The height was also set so the top can be sat on. With cushions, the run doubles as an extra seat along the wall, which matters in a room too small to give a run of storage a single purpose.
